Sounds of the suburb

Relaxing in our backyard, eyes closed, in the sun. A peculiar mix of nature and human made sounds fill my ears and my head.

The wind rustling in the trees, swishing and swushing the leaves.

A dozen different kinds of birds singing and chirping. Are they still searching for a mate? Are they building nests? Or are they already waiting for eggs to hatch? (I really don’t know; I’m way too urban, without even the sub)

Dogs barking. Kids shouting and laughing in the yards of nearby houses and daycare centers.

Neighgors talking in their own backyards. Opening doors. Closing doors.

The slamming of car doors. Cars passing by every now and then.

An occasional airplane, on it’s way somewhere.

Teenagers bicycling by. People walking, talking, with or without dogs or kids.

My own kids playing on the computer, sound effects made mainly by the girls since the sounds of the age-old dos-game Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventures won’t work in WinXP (at least not on our laptops).

The distant sound of gunshots! Is there a shooting range or some sort of virtual war ground somewhere in the woods beyond our neighborhood?

I like it 🙂
